It's so true that as one gets older, time runs past more quickly. The kids are growing too fast and I find myself asking "where did the time go??".
Work, family, sports (basketball, football, lacrossd), camping, vacation, holidays then it's another year's end.
Good!: -Neo finished the year with grades to be proud of!
-Arya celebrated her 3rd birthday with her first party.
-Karl has been exploring VR and really enjoying his Oculus as a way to get exercise and have fun.
Not so good: -I finished the year with our first family’s first brush with COVID-19. Fortunately, it came and went without too much trouble. Thank you vaccines, boosters, and Paxlovid!
Now is a good time to revisit the places we got to visit in 2022 and the family and friends we were fortunate enough to see on our travels. I hope you enjoy the 2022 travelogue…
🛻⛺️ Some places we visited in 2022
(Hint:pictures are linked in some titles)
March - Cape Hatteras in The Outer Banks (OBX), North Carolina
A scary night with 50 mph winds while camping on the beach. We had freezing weather at the start and pool weather by the end of Spring Break. Something for everyone!
April - Camping on the beach in Montauk,NY
We love Hither Hills State Park! It probably has the nicest facilities of all the state parks in the New York system. Camping on the beach again. When it's not sweltering it's really hard to beat.
May - Memorial Day in Lancaster, PA
We love PA and especially Lancaster. We find ourselves here at least once a year for the variety of activities, food, and culture. In case you didn't know, Lancaster is a community that is thriving with Amish and Mennonite influences. Scenic farms are everywhere and so are the fresh produce and baked goods that make visitors come back.
July - July 4th Weekend in the Finger Lakes (FLX) New York @ Taughannock Falls State Park
A lovely spot to spend time with the kids running wild on the playground and an even better spot to see the July 4th fireworks over the lake and mountains framing the grand old Inn at Taughannock Falls
Had lunch in a Trumansburg restaurant on the site of the original MOOG synthesizer factory. I can see why Robert Moog picked this part of NY to live and grow his business. It's peaceful and scenic but just a short drive to the city of Ithaca.
July - Family Week in Provincetown Massachusetts 🌈
Family Week in ProvinceTown has become an annual retreat for our family. Family Week is an annual gathering (over 30 years now) of GLBTQ families from around the world who meet and socialize and party on the beach. The kids always have a blast and it caps off with a family week parade down Commercial Street where the entire town (residents, tourists, police and everyone else) celebrates our families. Such an inspiring time for our family...
August - Massey Landing in Rehobeth Bay DE
We stayed at a campground that was right on the water (Massey's Landing) with a small beach just 1 minute walk away from our campsite. We enjoyed good company, as friends joined us at the gampground with their kids, lots of fun on the water, lovely sunsets on the the beach and even one day of dancing with the little ones on the sand as the sun went down.
October - New York Sheep And Wool Festival, Rhinebeck, NY 🐏
We've been attending this very popular weekend event that has consistently had great weather and peak leaf peeping. It is an event for all ages, farm animals (rabbits, llamas, cows etc.) for judging and clipping demonstrations, food from all over the area and vendors selling knitwear, yarn, and food stuff from farms all around the Catskills and greater North East. It's gotten larger and larger every year which is great for them but not so great for us. It's definitely worth a visit if you've not visited though.
♥️ If I didn't take pictures and video every step of the way, I'd never remember all of the experiences we were fortunate enough to enjoy this year.
📚 Books I loved in 2022
Grace Jones's fabulously candid memoir, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs , co-written with the well respected writer Paul Morley. A story of self-invention and artistry through sheer force of will.
Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys., by guitarist for the Slits Viv Albertine A seminal all female UK punk band of the 80's that merged punk, reggae, and unfiltered and released just one record of note ("Cut, 1979") but what a record it is. Still sounds fresh 40 years later. Girl power personified.
The Overstory by Richard Powers A multi-layered tale of what happens when the trees start to revolt against what we are doing to this world. A magical and engrossing story of how old trees know more than we ever will, but are getting cut down one by one for grocery bags and paper towels.
